On Tuesday, August 25, Southern Anti-Racism Network (SARN) will host a forum at Mildred Terry Library, 640 Veterans Parkway to explore the history of the Confederate Battle Flag as adopted in 1956 by the Georgia State Legislature as the state flag. Time of the forum is 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
State Representative Calvin Smyre and State Representative Carolyn Hugley have been invited to participate. Both Representative Smyre and Representative Hugley have been asked to tell about their experiences in 2003 when Governor Roy Barnes led the initiative to remove the Confederate Battle Flag symbol from the state flag.
A brief history of the Confederate Battle Flag as adopted by states across the South will be presented.
The call to remove the Stone Mountain Confederate monument will also be discussed.
Light refreshments will be served.
