The February 2016 Unity March took place at the MLK Shopping Center on MLK Boulevard.

Numerous individuals spoke at the pre-march rally at the MLK Shopping Center, including City Council candidate Marquese “Skinny” Averett, Muscogee County Sheriff candidate Robert Keith Smith, members of the NAACP Columbus Branch, and Stephen Muhammad, Leader of Muhammad Mosque #96 of the Nation of Islam, which, through their Fruit of Islam paramilitary, provided security in tandem with Columbus Police Department.

Two parents of young Black men killed under conflicting circumstances, including the mother of Marquis Brown, who died at the Outlaw Saloon in a brawl in early February, spoke at the rally as well.
