TEXAS: Four U.S. lesbians, wrongly accused of child abuse, have been exonerated

A deplorable scandal in Texas, wronging four women.

Four lesbian women, who were wrongly accused of child abuse, have been exonerated this week after serving nearly two decades in prison.

Elizabeth Ramirez, Cassandra Rivera, Kristie Mayhugh and Anna Vasquez, later named the ‘San Antonio Four’, who were 19 and 20 at the time of their arrest in 1994, were accused of sexually abusing Elizabeth’s nieces’ and ‘satanic rituals’.

“These four women have unquestionably established that they are innocent of these charges,” Texan judge David Newell wrote. “Those defendants have won the right to proclaim to the citizens of Texas that they did not commit a crime. That they are innocent. That they deserve to be exonerated.”

This outcome will allow the four women, who are now in their 40s, to clear their names and take them off the sex offenders list. It will also allow them to seek up to $80,00 USD in compensation for each year they were imprisoned – 17 years ($1,360,000 USD) for Elizabeth and 13 ($1,040,000 USD) for Cassandra, Kristie and Anna.

Trump supporter tells CBS: He will make America great again like it was before ‘the homosexuals’

tell us how you really feel!

From CBS via Raw Story:

A voter named Barbara explained that she was motivated to support Trump because “morality and values” were important to her.

“Based on what the country was based on,” she said. “I think that the laws that Obama has passed, the way the country has — I call it down turning. Some of the other people are proud of it and happy for it. I personally am against it, the homosexuals, the abortions. All the stuff, I am against.”

“When Donald Trump says ‘Make American Great Again,’ is that what you hear?” Dickerson wondered. “That it’s going to go back to before the time that you’re now describing?”

That’s part of it,” Barbara agreed.

SAVE YOUR TEARS: Anti-LGBT Nations Offer FAKE Condolences to #Orlando

In the spirit of GetEQUAL’s dragging of homophobic U.S. congressmembers for their unjustified, useless condolences, let’s look at the countries offering condolences to Orlando which have anti-gay sodomy laws or criminalization of freedom of expression for LGBT people.

Seriously, they range from fines to imprisonment to torture to execution. But yet, they offer condolences and absolutely DO NOT MENTION THAT QUEER FOLKS WERE TARGETED.

DRAG the Hypocrites: #GetEQUAL Reads anti-LGBT Politicians for Hollow #Orlando Condolences

When GetEQUAL is lit, they’re on fire.

The fine folks at this organization called out politicians left-and-right yesterday on Twitter for voting records, fundraising, and speaking engagements with anti-LGBT allies, specifically the Family Research Council. Almost all of 28 incumbent senators and 29 congressmembers called out have 100% voting records with the FRC.

Let’s read the grouped-by-state receipts, shall we?

Please feel free to use this image anywhere, just acknowlege it came from Kyler Zee. Thank you!

I enjoy myself at ‪#‎SOBSFCon‬ in Atlanta. Talk about it on video.

I go to sleep. Then a queer nightclub in ‪#‎Orlando‬ is massacred by a religious bigot gunman. During Pride Month.

Then I wake up.

What can I feel about this?

It’s only starting to sink in that people were sitting ducks, enjoying themselves in their vulnerability to each other, and someone just took advantage of that vulnerability to end their lives.

It’s a betrayal of that honesty of the close, inclusive quarters.

His father blames it on seeing two men kissing.

How can someone be so disturbed by such vulnerability that they seek to kill those who show it on such a grand scale?

That is, unless they are carefully taught or teach themselves to see such vulnerability as inhuman, as not fitting the “proper roles” of human beings. And, like cowards, seek to “perfect” the world by eliminating the “improper” people.

But that is not just. It is irrational, insipid, arrogant, and monstrous. It can emanate from anywhere for any reason or motive, but will carry out death and destruction all the same.

Sometimes, there is no justice. Not against such a monstrosity.

But, at the bottom of Pandora’s box, there is hope. There is always hope.

#INDIA: University Protests Film About Fired Gay Professor for “Defamation”

A new film, Aligarh, depicting the real-life drama surrounding a professor at Aligarh Muslim University, Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who killed himself in 2009 following his being fired for his sexuality, is being protested by the university which fired him.

If there’s one place you can’t watch the Manoj Bajpai-starrer ‘Aligarh’, it’s Aligarh itself.

Though Hansal Mehta’s controversial project found widespread release in other districts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, strong opposition from students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and a few organisations has reportedly prevented it from making it to movie halls in the town. There are two reasons for their discomfiture – the name of the movie, and the alleged portrayal of AMU in a negative light.[…]

Registering strong opposition against the movie’s release, town-based organisation Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) submitted a memorandum to Union information & broadcasting minister Ravi Shankar Prasad – seeking that the movie’s name be changed.

Making a similar demand, AMU students action committee leaders Shikoh and Fahim Akhtar said they plan to lodge an FIR against Mehta once the convocation was over. “We will not allow anybody to defame Aligarh. He should give some other title to this film,” they said.

According to the two, the movie sends the wrong message about Aligarh – otherwise a centre of education and culture that’s “factually portrayed through the ghazals of Shaharyar in the film Umrao Jaan”.

Former AMU students’ union vice-president Syed Masud-ul-Hasan disapproved of the movie’s very theme. “Films must not be encouraged to portray such relationships. I feel it’s a criminal activity. Films should have a positive message for the youth.”

Siras’ case made national news in India following his privacy being violated by journalists who forced their way into his dorm room and filmed him having consensual sex with a rickshaw puller. Despite homosexuality being decriminalized throughout India at the time by the Delhi High Court, AMU proceeded to fire Siras from his job the next day. He successfully sued for his reinstatement and returned to his job in April 2010, but was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound a week after his return.

The filmmaker, Hansal Mehta, has come out strongly against the protests:

“It doesn’t seem like an official ban. The mayor (Shakuntala Bharti) has joined the issue with the fringe group (MBMC). Our stand is that the city of Aligarh has, once again, killed professor Siras,” Mehta said.

Terming those decrying the movie as homophobic, he said, “Their worry is that Aligarh, which is famous for knowledge and locks, will be linked only to homosexuality with this movie. There can’t be a statement more homophobic than this.”

GA Senate Passes Anti-LGBT Hybrid Bill, 38-14; Sen. Kirk Compares Black Panthers to KKK

hb757senatepassageThis anti-LGBT bill can go to Gov. Deal’s desk as early as Monday. From NCRM:

The Georgia First Amendment Defense Act just passed the Senate by a vote of 38-14. The bill now makes its way back to the Georgia House, which only needs to agree on it. In all likelihood, given that a previous version passed unanimously, it will. The anti-gay “religious freedom” legislation could be signed into law by GOP Gov. Nathan Deal as soon as Monday, after the House reconvenes.[…]

During the initial hearing Friday morning, Republican senators led by Sen. Greg Kirk (photo, lower center), moved quickly to engross the bill, banning any amendments to the legislation from being proposed.

In explaining the bill before the vote Friday, Sen. Greg Kirk claimed it does not impact any business, including its relationship with employees, and claimed “it is a live and let live bill.” Legal experts disagree.

Meanwhile, we apparently can’t even have decent public accommodations protections. From The GA Voice:

Rep. Roger Bruce (D-Atlanta) voiced his support for the amendment, saying, “When the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964, some of the classes that are in this amendment, it really wasn’t a public issue back then. If we are setting the record straight and doing the right thing, there are new issues that have come up and this amendment addresses those issues.”

However, some committee members voiced opposition to it, with Rep. Tom Weldon (R-Ringgold) asking Rep. Bennett what gender identity meant, then saying he’s against the amendment because, “Those who get bullied usually are the ones that end up doing well on down the road in life.”

The amendment failed 6 to 4 and HB 849 will now go before the full House Judiciary Committee.

ALSO: When pressed by Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur), Sen. Kirk admitted that it could protect the Ku Klux Klan, the infamous racial terrorist organization, but stated that it wasn’t targeted toward the KKK. Then, in his answer to Jones, Kirk invoked the Black Panther Party as another organization which could be protected under the bill, falsely comparing the organization to the KKK.

Louie Gohmert: Gay Islanders Would Die Out, Proving Gay Marriage Is Wrong | Right Wing Watch

Rep. Louie Gohmert:

We could take four heterosexual couples, married, and put them on an island where they have everything they need to sustain life. Then take four all-male couples and put them on an island with all they need to sustain life, take four couples of women, married, and put them on an island, and let’s come back in 100 to 200 years and see which one nature says is the preferred marriage.

Question: Wouldn’t “four heterosexual couples” being left on an island for 200 years result in incest and genetic atrocities?

Lafayette Theater Shooter Fan of David Duke, Neo-Nazis, and Antigovernment Conspiracies — Hatewatch Blog — Medium

johnrussellhouserLast night, a man, John Russell Houser (aged 59), opened fire inside the Grand Theatre in Lafayette, Louisiana during a showing of Trainwreck, killing 2 and wounding 9 before killing himself.

Apparently, according to web postings made by him and assembled by the SPLC, Houser was a fan of “David Duke, Neo-Nazis, and Antigovernment Conspiracies”:

“Do not mistake yourselves for one minute, the enemy sees all posted on this website. I do not want to discourage the last hope for the best, but you must realize the power of the lone wolf, is the power that come forth in ALL situations,” Houser wrote on a forum dedicated to the New York chapter of Golden Dawn, Greece’s far-right neo-Nazi political party. “Look within yourselves.”

That comment was one of dozens of messages that Houser, 59, left on several Internet message boards, all of which provide a picture of a politically disaffected, angry man who viewed the United States as a “financially failing filth farm,” expressed interest in white power groups, anti-Semitic ideas, the anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church, as well as a number of conspiracy theories often espoused by the antigovernment right.

But his extremism appears to have gone deeper. In 2005, he registered to attend David Duke’s European-American Unity and Rights Organization (EURO) Conference in New Orleans, according to a spreadsheet of conference registrations obtained by Hatewatch. He lauded Duke, one of the most recognizable figures of the American radical right, a neo-Nazi, longtime Ku Klux Klan leader and now an international spokesman for Holocaust denial. On a PoliticalForum.com, Houser wrote in 2013, “David Duke has been unseen or hear of in years, but at one time appeared exactly what US needed.”

It is also the most recent mass shooting in the U.S. this month, following the murders of 5 Marines in Chattanooga by an Islamist on July 15.
