In the spirit of GetEQUAL’s dragging of homophobic U.S. congressmembers for their unjustified, useless condolences, let’s look at the countries offering condolences to Orlando which have anti-gay sodomy laws or criminalization of freedom of expression for LGBT people.
Seriously, they range from fines to imprisonment to torture to execution. But yet, they offer condolences and absolutely DO NOT MENTION THAT QUEER FOLKS WERE TARGETED.
I enjoy myself at #SOBSFCon in Atlanta. Talk about it on video.
I go to sleep. Then a queer nightclub in #Orlando is massacred by a religious bigot gunman. During Pride Month.
Then I wake up.
What can I feel about this?
It’s only starting to sink in that people were sitting ducks, enjoying themselves in their vulnerability to each other, and someone just took advantage of that vulnerability to end their lives.
It’s a betrayal of that honesty of the close, inclusive quarters.
His father blames it on seeing two men kissing.
How can someone be so disturbed by such vulnerability that they seek to kill those who show it on such a grand scale?
That is, unless they are carefully taught or teach themselves to see such vulnerability as inhuman, as not fitting the “proper roles” of human beings. And, like cowards, seek to “perfect” the world by eliminating the “improper” people.
But that is not just. It is irrational, insipid, arrogant, and monstrous. It can emanate from anywhere for any reason or motive, but will carry out death and destruction all the same.
Sometimes, there is no justice. Not against such a monstrosity.
But, at the bottom of Pandora’s box, there is hope. There is always hope.
The list of the 49 victims of the #Orlando shooting continues to be updated with names, ages and even occupations. They worked in the widest variety of occupations, came from predominantly Latino and African descents, and were mostly LGBTQ.
It is because of that last aspect that their lives were taken on Pride Month.
This is the list from the City government of Orlando which is still being updated as of this writing. This list does not include the perpetrator.

It’s an IDAHOT Miracle! Eric Fanning has finally been unanimously confirmed as Secretary of the Army by a Republican-majority Senate. From NCRM:
The U.S. Senate in a unanimous and historic vote has just confirmed Eric Fanning to be the next Secretary of the Army. Fanning, whose extensive resume makes him among the most qualified ever nominated, has been waiting 242 days since President Barack Obama first nominated him to the role. One anti-gay Republican Senator, Pat Roberts, was able to block the confirmation vote by a parliamentary tactic, but he released his hold and Fanning was confirmed.
Fanning is now the highest-ranking openly-LGBT person to ever hold federal office.
Roberts had previously declared that he would hold Fanning’s confirmation until the end of President Obama’s term in office. But, via HuffPo, he:
said he personally called Fanning earlier in the day to tell him he was planning to let him through.
“My issue has never been with Mr. Fanning’s character, his courage or his capability,” Roberts said on the Senate floor. “He will be a tremendous leader.”
Fanning has previously served as the Acting Under Secretary of the Army and Chief Management Officer, Chief of Staff of the Department of Defense, Acting Secretary of the Air Force, and Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy, among other roles.
Happy IDAHOT, Fort Benning!

BREAKING NEWS FROM ALABAMA: Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court has been suspended by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary, which is investigating him for having “flagrantly disregarded and abused his authority” in ordering the state’s probate judges to refuse applications for marriage licenses by same-sex couples.
For the second time in his career, Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore faces charges before the Alabama Court of the Judiciary and potential removal from office.
Until that court hears and rules on those charges, Moore will be suspended with pay from his position atop the state’s highest court.
On Friday, the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission forwarded charges to the commission, accusing the chief justice of violating judicial ethics in his opposition to same-sex marriage.
Reached by phone Friday evening, Moore said he was ready to fight what he called the LGBT agenda.
“The Judicial Inquiry Commission has no authority over the administrative orders of the chief justice of Alabama or the legal injunctions of the Alabama Supreme Court prohibiting probate judges from issuing same-sex marriage licenses,” Moore said. “The Judicial Inquiry Commission has chosen to listen to people like Ambrosia Starling, a professed transvestite and other gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals, as well as organizations that support their agenda.”
And guess who the judge blames for this suspension? This drag performer, Ambrosia Starling, who joined the Birmingham-based SPLC, HRC, PFAW and other rights activists in filing an ethics complaint against Moore. Moore calls Starling “a professed transvestite” “would have been said to have a mental disorder-gender identity disorder according to the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association”.
Starling claps back at Moore in this video:
In the interim, Associate Justice Lyn Stuart serves as Acting Chief Justice.
The Alabama Court of the Judiciary is a special court convened to try judicial officers for ethics, misconduct, dereliction of duty or incapacitation. Under the Alabama State Constitution, impeachment of judges cannot happen without judges first being tried by the Court of the Judiciary. It consists of district and circuit judges appointed by the State Supreme Court, the Alabama Senate, the Alabama State Bar and the District Judges’ Association.
